Professor Craig Munns is passionate about improving the bone health, physical abilities and quality of life of children with musculoskeletal disorders. As an expert in diagnosing and managing paediatric bone conditions, his treatment protocols have been widely impacted globally. Craig is a widely published author and a highly regarded expert.
Professor Craig Munns graduated from John Paul College in 1985 as a member of our Foundation Year 12 student cohort, where he was the College’s first School Captain, Dux and recipient of the Cameron Cup in 1984 and 1985.
Post JPC, Professor Munns graduated from Medicine at The University of Queensland in 1992. He was awarded a Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Paediatrics and Endocrinology in 2001. In 2004, Professor Munns obtained his PhD in Paediatrics from The University of Queensland.
After completing post-doctoral studies in Canada, Professor Munns joined the staff of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney as a Paediatric Endocrinologist. At the hospital, he was also director of the diagnostic services division and clinical lead of Advanced Therapeutics. In recognition of his world-leading expertise in the management of and research into genetic and acquired musculoskeletal disorders of childhood, Professor Munns was awarded a Chair in Paediatric Bone and Mineral Medicine at the University of Sydney in 2018.
Since 2023, Professor Munns moved back to Brisbane with his family and is now working at the University of Queensland as Director of the Child Health Research Centre and Head of the Mayne Academy of Paediatrics. He is also a Senior Medical Officer in the Department of Endocrinology at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
