Fletcher Dyson, a former Australian rugby union player, began his career in rugby in 1986 when he started at John Paul College as a Year 8 student, where he found his passion for the sport and a sense of belonging among his rugby family. He went on to earn national selection in the Australian Under 19 team and the Australian Institute of Sport Under 21s, and eventually made his debut for the Waratahs and the Wallabies. However, his career was cut short on February 19, 2004, when a devastating neck injury almost severed his spinal cord during a practice session with the Reds in Christchurch. Fletcher’s injury drew the curtain on a career that ended all too prematurely. His official playing statistics show 10 caps for the Wallabies and 51 caps for his beloved Reds.
Today, Dyson remains involved in rugby as a coach and ambassador for the Spinal Association of Queensland and actively nurtures the next generation of Wallabies through his involvement in the C2K programme involving vintage Reds players.
