From his early appointment as Technical Assistant for the Australian Boomers to his role as Assistant Coach for the Brisbane Bullets, Mick Downer has built a remarkable career in the National Basketball League. He previously served as Assistant Coach for the Cairns Taipans from 2009 to 2015, contributing to two Grand Final appearances.
A FIBA-accredited international coach, Mick brings over 20 years of experience across professional, amateur and high-performance sporting environments. He is also the Founder and Director of NextPlay Solutions, a coaching and consultancy company supporting athletes, coaches and organisations.
In addition to his coaching roles, Mick is a respected mentor, presenter and consultant, and currently serves as Assistant Coach with the Akita Northern Happinets in Japan’s top division B1 league, while continuing to lead NextPlay’s mission of guiding others toward their “next play”.
