Lara Korhammer (née Hooiveld)

Lara Korhammer made history as John Paul College’s first Olympian at 17 years of age. She represented Australia at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, placing fourth in the 4x100m medley relay. Two years later, she won gold at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and generously gifted her medal to the College. Balancing elite sport with academic commitment, Lara completed Year 12 after the Olympics and went on to earn a scholarship to the University of Michigan. There, she was named NCAA Female Swimmer of the Year in 1993. Renowned for her determination, humility and resilience, Lara helped pave the way for future generations of Australian swimmers.
