Andrew Burgess believes that in the future, cancer will become like getting a cold. His career has been dedicated to understanding the mechanisms behind excessive cell division leading to cancer. His research began as an honours student in 1998 at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research following his science degree, leading to the development of a drug for the treatment of lymphoma in 2010.
Receiving a prestigious Future Research Leader Fellowship in 2012, he established his research group, the Cell Division Lab, at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, Australia. Andrew's work focuses on how deregulated cell proliferation drives cancer progression, drug resistance, and metastasis. With over 70 publications in leading scientific journals, he is considered an emerging global authority in this field.
