Balance the Scales - Celebrating International Women's Day 2026

Each year on International Women’s Day, we join a global movement to celebrate the achievements of women and reflect on the work still needed to achieve true gender equality. In 2026, the United Nations theme, Balance the Scales, calls on communities around the world to address the persistent inequalities that continue to limit fair, inclusive and accessible justice for women and girls.

At the College, this message resonates strongly with our core values of Mutual Respect and Compassion. Balance the Scales encourages us to treat one another with fairness, kindness and dignity, recognising the strengths, perspectives and contributions of every individual. It also challenges us to lead with compassion, offering support, understanding and encouragement to those who may experience barriers or disadvantage.

By living these values in our classrooms, playgrounds, staffrooms and homes, we help foster a community where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive. Today serves as a reminder that creating an inclusive, respectful and compassionate College environment is not simply something we speak about; it is something we practice together each day.

At our International Women’s Day Breakfast, we were inspired by two trailblazing twin sisters who shared powerful stories, sparked thoughtful conversation and championed the path forward. We were delighted to welcome back 2011 alumni Annabelle Efstathis and Zoe Greenup (née Efstathis) as our guest speakers.

Annabelle Efstathis (2011) is a Partner within the Property and Hospitality Team at Mullins Lawyers, where she advises on major hotel, resort and community venue projects across Australia. She has also been recognised as a finalist in the Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Real Estate category (2022–2023).

Zoe Greenup (née Efstathis) (2011) is the Head Designer at Sabo, leading the creative direction behind the brand’s globally recognised resort and event wear collections. Her work has been showcased at both New York Fashion Week and Sydney Fashion Week.

Annabelle reflected on the importance of balance beyond the workplace:
“Have some fun and build your hobbies, you’ve got to still have passions outside of work. And when it comes to equality for women, even in the ten years I’ve been in the corporate world, it’s getting better, but there’s still so far to go.”

Zoe spoke about the power of self-belief and the influence of those who encourage us:
“Keeping my options open and having that creative outlet through school really taught me to back myself, you’re going to make your own career. And I owe so much of that to my mum, who saw it in me first. She’s still my biggest inspiration today.”

The College encourages our students, staff and families to reflect on how each of us can help balance the scales—not only through awareness, but through everyday actions that promote equity, dignity and respect. Together, we can help shape a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
